Christine lost over 18 pounds, wore her “skinny” jeans and maintained the weight loss for over a year and counting! As most pre and post menopausal women can attest, this is a remarkable achievement. So how did she do it? By reviewing her progress more closely, it became clear that more than weight loss occurred. Without appropriate strength training, a high percentage of the pounds lost could have been muscle, making it easier to regain the lost pounds. By increasing lean muscle during her weight loss, Christine boosted her body’s fat burning abilities and improved her ability to horseback ride more effectively. After doing some calculations, we see Christine’s body fat dropped from 24.0% to a lean 17.3%. Her jean size went from a 12-14 to an 8! This means for every pound shed, 84% of each lost pound was fat. Christine maintained the weight loss and her clothes fit better due to a greater percentage of lean muscle tissue. The scale does not tell the full story. From Christine’s success, she highly encourages other women who wish to lose weight to focus more on “how the clothes fit” than “what the scale says” because the scale can be misleading. Christine is a beautiful example who shows that women can achieve great fitness results at any stage in life!
